Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Set for 2026 Launch with Stunning Design

Date:

Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its first foldable iPhone, tentatively dubbed the iPhone Fold, in September 2026 as part of the iPhone 18 series. According to a JPMorgan report cited by CNBC, the device may feature a premium design reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, aimed at redefining Apple’s smartphone lineup.

Insider sources suggest it will boast a 7.8-inch inner display with a possibly crease-free OLED panel and a 5.5-inch external screen. It’s expected to use a titanium-based frame and feature a liquid metal hinge, aligning with Apple’s high-end materials and craftsmanship.

Analysts estimate a starting price around $1,999, making it Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date. JPMorgan forecasts initial sales in the low tens of millions in fiscal 2027, growing to the mid-40 million range by 2029. The launch is anticipated to generate up to $65 billion in sales.

Although the model may not immediately redefine smartphone interaction, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman notes it will reflect Apple’s confidence in maturing foldable tech. It’s designed to eliminate visible screen creases, enhance the hinge mechanism, and adapt iOS for a folding form factor.

Reports indicate Apple may begin starting production by late 2025 with manufacturers like Foxconn, leveraging display panels from Samsung Display. Previous rumors also suggest the upcoming device will replace Face ID with side-mounted Touch ID to accommodate the foldable form.

As Apple prepares this new launch, industry commentary suggests the company’s timing may be strategic. Samsung’s success with multiple foldable generations has allowed Apple to learn from earlier challenges—like creasing and hinge durability—before entering the foldable market. This delay may pay off as consumer interest matures.
