August 18, 2025 – Apple’s latest iOS 18.6 update is causing problems for iPhone owners, with many reporting that their contacts have suddenly disappeared after installing the software.
Users across Apple Support forums, Reddit, and Facebook groups say the issue varies: for some, entire contact lists have vanished, while others only see phone numbers without the associated names. In certain cases, the bug has affected multiple devices linked through iCloud, wiping contacts across an entire Apple ecosystem.
A temporary fix suggested by users is to re-enable iCloud Contacts. This can be done by going to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Contacts and toggling the feature off and on again. While this has restored contacts for some, others report no change.
Apple’s release notes for iOS 18.6 highlight general bug fixes, security improvements, and a patch for a Photos-related issue but make no mention of contact loss. The company has not yet issued an official statement regarding the problem.
For those still affected, users are advised to contact Apple Support to report the bug and seek assistance.
