Bluesky Experiences Major Outage, Users Locked Out Across Regions

Date:

Update as of April 29, 2025, 4:00 PM IST:
Bluesky is currently facing a global outage, with users across countries like Germany, the UK, South Korea, India, Portugal, and the US reporting issues. Platforms such as Downdetector, Reddit, and X are showing a significant uptick in complaints. The exact reason behind the downtime remains unclear, and Bluesky has not yet issued an official response. Based on previous incidents, however, service is likely to resume soon. We’ll continue monitoring the situation and share updates when available.

Original article from April 17, 2025:
Bluesky is experiencing widespread server problems, preventing many users from accessing their feeds or using core functions of the app. The disruption has sparked discussions on Reddit and X, where users are trying to determine what’s happening.

The problem began about an hour ago and seems to block access to content even though users continue to receive notifications. Many encounter server errors upon launching the app or trying to navigate within it.

One Redditor, u/jmood88, shared that they’re still getting like notifications, but can’t load the app at all due to persistent server errors. Reports are rolling in from multiple regions including both coasts of the US, Toronto, and several parts of Europe.

Interestingly, the outage isn’t affecting all users equally. Some have found that only one of their accounts is experiencing issues, while others are functioning normally. One user, u/MastodonNo2204, noted that one of their two accounts was broken, but their partner’s account was unaffected. This uneven experience has confused users, with some initially fearing they were banned.

Bluesky’s official status page doesn’t currently show any signs of a major outage, and the company hasn’t provided details on the root cause or estimated fix time. A few users have reported partial restoration of the app, but problems persist for others.

Until the issue is resolved, many users are turning to alternative platforms for updates. If you’re affected, checking Bluesky’s status page may offer the latest information. Based on past incidents, a full recovery shouldn’t take long.
