August 18, 2025 – Google Chrome for Android is reportedly experiencing an issue where bookmarks fail to open properly on new tabs, causing frustration among users. According to reports, the bookmarks appear to load—but then vanish or remain inaccessible unless Chrome is force-restarted.
In one Reddit thread, a user shared:
“Bookmarks on Chrome on my Samsung S20Fe have been only loading and not opening… I have to shut down Chrome for them to reappear.”
(Reddit)
Multiple users have echoed this frustration, noting that even on new devices or after syncing accounts, the bookmarks refuse to function correctly. One explained that they had to reinstall the app, but lost all bookmarks in the process
There’s no official comment from Google yet about this bug. However, users have reported temporary workarounds—most notably, force-stopping the Chrome app seems to temporarily restore bookmark functionality.
Why This Matters
Bookmarks are vital for quick access to frequently used sites, especially on mobile devices. When the feature fails, users struggle to retrieve important pages, disrupting daily workflows and browsing routines. While rebooting or reinstalling may offer a temporary reprieve, these are cumbersome and risky solutions—potentially leading to data loss or reconfiguration needs.
Bottom Line
If your Chrome bookmarks on Android are not opening and seem stuck loading indefinitely, you’re not alone. The most common short-term fix is force-closing the app, though this isn’t a reliable solution. For now, consider saving critical links elsewhere—such as in a notes app or another browser—until Google releases a proper update.
