Galaxy S23 Users Report Camera Quality Drop After One UI 7 Update

Date:

Samsung’s recent One UI 7 update, rolled out to Galaxy S23 series phones since April 2025, brings a revamped camera interface and advanced editing tools. The update shifts many camera controls to the bottom, adds enhanced zoom settings, expanded exposure options, and new video editing functions—intended to improve usability and creative control. These features align with Samsung’s broader push toward AI-powered customization, such as RAW photo editing and generative video tools.

However, many S23 users are reporting degraded camera performance after updating. Complaints range from over-processed or blurry shots to muted colors and loss of detail—especially in bright daylight and low-light conditions. Ultra-wide images are frequently described as “mushy,” and night shots on the S23 Ultra often suffer from focus issues and lack of clarity.

On forums like Samsung Community and Reddit, some proactive users have praised the improved telephoto and portrait modes, noting sharper long-range photos. Others have found the new exposure slider helpful for dialing in balanced shots. Even so, consensus varies: while certain users report camera improvements, many more express dissatisfaction—describing the changes as inconsistent and at times regressive compared to One UI 6.1 results.

In response to the backlash, community moderators and tech news outlets are advising users to tweak camera settings—such as disabling certain AI filters, adjusting exposure settings manually, or clearing cache—as temporary remedies. Officially, Samsung has encouraged affected owners to submit feedback via the Samsung Members app and is expected to address performance issues in future patches.

Analysts remark that while One UI 7 introduces meaningful interface improvements and AI-driven enhancements, the side effect may be overly aggressive post-processing for some users. This has reignited debate around the balance between automation and control in smartphone photography. Observers warn that until Samsung optimizes image processing consistency, the rollout risks reducing confidence in the S23 line’s camera capabilities.

For now, users seeking predictable photo quality may prefer to lock exposure settings, explore manual camera apps, or delay One UI 7 updates where still pending. Samsung’s next software update is expected to refine the balance between its new feature set and preserving the reliable imaging quality that defined earlier firmware.
