Galaxy Watch 8 Incompatible with Samsung’s Trio Wireless Charger, Users Report Charging Issues

Date:

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 8 series has introduced a hidden limitation with its Wireless PowerShare feature: the smartwatch is not compatible with Samsung’s standard 3‑in‑1 Wireless Charger Trio, even though the phone itself supports the feature. While users can wirelessly power their Galaxy Buds and Galaxy phones using the Trio, the watch charging pad consistently fails to power up the Watch 8, unlike earlier models that worked seamlessly.

The issue appears tied to the Trio dock’s design, which requires precise positioning and power allocation to charge multiple devices simultaneously. Reports indicate the Trio charges the watch for just a few seconds before stopping—despite successfully charging phones and earbuds. Users even tested removing cases and aligning the watch centrally, but it still wouldn’t charge reliably unless moved to a dedicated single-device charger.

This problem isn’t widespread across all Samsung accessories; rather, it’s specific to the Watch 8 and the older Trio dock. Samsung’s official support documentation clarifies that not all Qi-compatible wireless accessories are guaranteed to work with every device, and recommends using Samsung-authorized chargers for full compatibility. In some cases, power-sharing may simply not be supported.

Community users flagged the incompatibility shortly after launch, reporting that only phone-to-watch PowerShare works reliably—though their clip-on adapter or older Duo chargers function. One Reddit user described how the watch only charged briefly before cutting off, even though the Galaxy Buds charged normally. This inconsistency has led many to conclude that firmware or hardware changes in the Watch 8 disrupted compatibility with the legacy Trio design.

Samsung has not publicly acknowledged a fix or updated support messaging, and no firmware patch has emerged yet. However, forums suggest Samsung is investigating. In the meantime, users are advised to rely on the official Galaxy Watch charging puck or stand—which consistently charges the Watch 8—or use phone-based PowerShare with newer models that support it.

This compatibility issue reflects a broader shift: as Samsung evolves its designs and standards, older accessories may lose full compatibility. Galaxy Watch 8 owners should confirm accessory support before purchase or use, especially if relying on older Trio chargers. For now, using Samsung’s official Watch charger remains the most reliable option.
