One UI 7 Screenshot Bug Freezes Devices; Fix Coming in One UI 8 Update

Date:

Samsung’s One UI 7 update brought a range of new features, including smarter multitasking, AI-assisted controls, and improved gesture navigation. However, the rollout hasn’t been entirely smooth. A significant bug has emerged that causes the touchscreen to freeze completely when taking a screenshot, forcing users to perform a hard reset or disconnect the device from a USB cable to regain control.

The issue has affected various Galaxy devices, including the S23 and S22 series. Users report that once the screenshot is taken, the interface becomes unresponsive, making it impossible to interact with the phone until it is forcibly rebooted. The problem appears consistently enough that it’s been widely acknowledged among the user community as a serious flaw.

Samsung has since confirmed it is working on a fix, which is expected to arrive in the upcoming One UI 8 update. This next version is currently in beta testing and already includes performance improvements and bug fixes, including a solution for the screenshot freeze. Although an official release date hasn’t been confirmed, the update is anticipated to launch within the next few months.

While waiting for the fix, some users have found workarounds. One temporary solution involves changing the button configuration for taking screenshots to avoid triggering the bug. Others have recommended disabling screenshot functionality altogether until the fix is released, although this may not be practical for everyone.

Beyond the screenshot issue, One UI 7 has faced criticism for other bugs, including problems with the notification panel, quick settings menu, and occasional display glitches. These issues contributed to a delayed rollout in some regions, as Samsung worked to stabilize the software. Patches have addressed several problems, but the screenshot-related lockup remained a persistent issue until now.

Early impressions of One UI 8 from beta testers have been more positive. In addition to fixing the major bugs, the new update is expected to enhance overall performance, improve battery efficiency, and expand customization options. It aims to provide the experience users hoped for with the original One UI 7 update.

Until the stable release of One UI 8 becomes available, users experiencing the freeze are advised to avoid taking screenshots or explore settings changes to minimize the risk. The upcoming update should resolve the issue and restore a more reliable and fluid user experience.
