Samsung Users Report Greyed-Out Landscape Option After One UI 7 Update

Date:

Some Samsung users who’ve recently upgraded to One UI 7 are running into an unexpected snag: their home screen no longer rotates into landscape mode. It’s a small feature, but one that many rely on—especially when using their phones with stands or in wider orientations.

The issue seems to center on the “Rotate to landscape mode” option in the Home screen settings. For many, this setting is grayed out and completely unresponsive, leaving users unable to toggle it on.

Most people experiencing the bug have tried the usual fixes—checking that auto-rotate is enabled, restarting the phone, and even resetting settings—but nothing seems to restore landscape rotation. One frustrated user on X, rhuzel24, asked, “Why is my ‘Rotate to landscape mode’ option grayed out and I can’t click it? Does anyone know how to fix it?”

After digging through community threads and user comments, a likely cause started to emerge. The problem might not stem directly from One UI 7, but rather from an interaction with Samsung’s own customization suite—specifically, the Good Lock app.

More precisely, it appears that the “Home Up” module within Good Lock is the root of the issue. Good Lock allows users to personalize various parts of the Samsung UI, and Home Up deals with how the home screen and app drawer behave.

A number of users discovered that disabling the Home Up module restored the landscape toggle immediately. For instance, a user named WillieGook posted on Samsung’s forums about the problem and later confirmed, “I got it!!!… I had Home-Up in Good Lock toggled on.” Similarly, Browny Beta pointed out that disabling the DIY Homescreen settings within Home Up fixed the issue for them too.

Interestingly, not every user running Home Up is affected. Some report that their landscape mode works just fine, even with the module enabled. That suggests the bug could be tied to specific configurations or a compatibility glitch between the module and the new One UI 7 framework.

If you’re stuck with a portrait-only home screen after updating to One UI 7, your best bet is to head into Good Lock and turn off the Home Up module. This workaround seems to be effective for most users until a proper update is released.

On a related note, another bug has emerged with the update—some users have noticed the location icon now constantly appears in the status bar. If that’s happening to you as well, it may be worth checking for community posts or fixes related to that issue too.
