The Sims 4 Update Breaks Mods and Saves After Pack Selection Feature Rollout

Date:

The Sims 4 community has been left frustrated this week after EA’s August 19 update, which was supposed to bring the exciting new Pack Selection feature, ended up causing widespread game-breaking issues. Instead of allowing players to toggle expansion packs on and off, the update has left many unable to access their saves or even load into Live Mode properly.

The feature itself appears to be fundamentally broken. Players who disable all packs and then try to re-enable them are reporting infinite loading screens, leaving the game stuck and unplayable. Popular content creator LilSimsie highlighted the issue in a video, showing how the game fails to recover once these changes are made.

The problems extend beyond just the Pack Selection feature. According to modder Spinning Plumb Bobs, EA’s update introduced changes to the game’s core code, breaking any mod that relies on certain injection scripts. This includes a wide range of popular mods—from UI overhauls like the main menu mod to gameplay additions that depend on script injections—causing them to boot players back to the world selection screen.

Zerbu, the creator of the well-known Mod Constructor tool, explained that EA inserted Pack Selection code into a critical line of the game’s programming. Since many mods hook into that same line, mods that add new interactions or alter game objects are now particularly prone to breaking. As a result, players have been unable to enter Live Mode with their usual mod setups.

While workarounds do exist, they’re far from ideal. Mod creators are rushing to release compatibility updates, with Zerbu already rolling out fixes for Mod Constructor-based mods. In the meantime, players who want to play without waiting can temporarily delete all mods, which at least one user confirmed resolved the issue for them.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time The Sims 4 community has dealt with broken mods after a patch. Past updates have also disrupted mods, but creators have generally been quick to restore functionality. While the August update has been disruptive, players can expect mod compatibility to return in the coming days as fixes continue to roll out.
